Blog #6 - Research Question

After having my initial thesis idea of continuing my Migration Roots project be constructively ripped apart and be told that there needs to be a lot more specifics involved in order for my problem to be feasible, I decided to go back to the drawing board. I still wanted to dedicate my thesis to aiding the refugee crisis so I took the time to write out any and all ideas that came to mind:

  • Helping refugees become aware of their resources and services.
  • Creating an environment of acceptance. (Empathy)
  • Providing tools.
  • How to integrate refugees as a vital and beneficial part of society.
  • How to demonstrate the impact of refugees in society.
  • How to provide employment opportunities to refugees while they're on their journey to a better place.
  • How to create a sense of community with current community members and refugees.
  • Helping refugees gain a sense of home and acceptance.
  • Helping refugees have a sense of security.
  • Refugee journey mapping.
  • Educating children in refugee camps.
  • Making refugee children feel like children again.
  • Providing fun/educational opportunities for refugee children.
  • Creating opportunities for refugees to learn how to read, write, and adapt to society.
  • How to provide counseling and mental health opportunities for refugees.
  • Providing an uplifting VR experience for children affected by the refugee crisis.
  • Providing opportunities for refugees to access mental health services.
  • Providing coping mechanisms for children affected by the refugee crisis.

After that brainstorming session, I felt that dedicating my thesis to creating a design solution for refugee children would be the best use of my time and efforts. With that said, below is my research questions(s).

Iteration 1: How can design be utilized in order to provide coping mechanisms for children that have been affected by the refugee crisis?

Iteration 2: How can creating a kit experience be utilized in order to provide coping mechanisms for children that have been affected by the refugee crisis?

Iteration 3: How can creating a kit experience be utilized in order to provide coping mechanisms for refugee children?

Iteration 4: How can designing a package experience be utilized in order to provide emotional coping mechanisms for refugee children?

Iteration 5: How can bringing common everyday items be utilized in order to provide emotional coping mechanisms for refugee children?

Iteration 6: How can creating an experience by bringing common everyday items to refugee children provide emotional coping mechanisms?

Iteration 7: How can designing an imagination kit be utilized in order to provide emotional coping mechanisms to refugee children?

Iteration 8: How can (re)connecting refugee children with toys, educational tools, etc. be beneficial towards providing emotional coping mechanisms for their well being?

Iteration 9: How can connecting refugee children with creative outlets, toys, and educational tools be beneficial towards providing emotional coping mechanisms for their well-being?

Iteration 10: How can utilizing UX/UI strategies to create a platform that connects refugee children with creative outlets, toys, and educational tools be beneficial towards providing coping mechanisms?

Iteration 11: How can UX/UI strategies be used to create a direct partnership between potential funders and a platform that provides for and addresses the coping needs of refugee children?

Iteration 12: How can UX/UI strategies be utilized to create a direct partnership between potential funders and a platform that empowers refugee children to embrace their utmost potential?

Iteration 13: How can UX/UI strategies and product design be utilized to create a platform that directly partners funders to give a physical product to refugee children that empowers and encourages them to embrace their utmost potential?

How can UX/UI strategies and product design be utilized to create a platform that directly connects funders to refugee children through a physical product that empowers and encourages them to embrace their utmost potential?

What I would like to achieve:

1. Create a platform that allows anyone to sponsor a hope package that can be sent to a refugee child.

2. Allow refugee children to cope with their mental and/or psychological issues through creative outlets.

3. Give refugee children the opportunity to embrace the essence of being a child again.
